Dualboot install error with win7. & best linux OS for netbook?

本帖最後由 himegoto 於 2011-8-3 02:51 編輯

I wanted to try utunbu initially on my netbook however 10.10 and 11.04 both netbook and desktop edition didnt work even with their usb installer. I am using samsung NF210.

anyway, I searched a bit online and some people recommend linux mint and ping-eee for netbooks. anyone tried these 2 OS before and recommend one to me?

since Im new to linux and mostly use the netbook for office work, watching LQ vids and mp3s rarely 720p.

thanks~

I have tried JoliOS, which looks nice and easy. You can always switch to a more 'complex' Linux distro later.

試下Fedora
Mint可能未必得,Mint Developer用Ubuntu去修改、強化而成

thanks for replies.
joliOS is too simplified for me for daily use.

I think I also have trouble with installing Linux in general... I tried installing them with ultraISO and the ubuntu usb installer but all didnt work.. I searched online and other ppl seem to have problem while dual booting with windows 7 and Linux OS....
it gave me a million lines of

"No systemdisk. Booting from harddisk.
Start booting from USB device..."

are there any solution to this because I havent find any yet, much appreciated!!

JoliOS is based on Ubuntu, which if you know the way, you can install any necessary packages with synaptic to make it work your way.

Anyway, try any Linux distro that you see fit.

For the boot problem, which distro you are trying to install?
What's the output of the command 'fdisk -l'?

I couldnt log in anything linux yet, so I am not sure.
I think it might be my win7 version since it's a slimmed down version. so far I've tried ubuntu but I mean almost everything under the sun are based on that... played with more installers also like the LiLi and Unetbootin. those 2 only gave me a empty blinking screen in DOS :(

Im really out of ideas but still eager to try on Linux on my netbook. sigh.. will try if PingEee works on installation.

回復 6# himegoto

My point is, there is no Linux distro being too simplified. Pick whatever you like as the starting point and you can build things on top.

And, I can tell you that there are way more Linux distro basing on Debian/Slackware/redhat  than that on Ubuntu. [http://futurist.se/gldt/]

One last question. Have you ever succeeded into booting the installation USB and finished the process?

Why not use separate harddisk? 2 physical harddisk is easier and save your time.
