Yes, Windows 8.1 can control updates in the same way as Windows 7.
The problem for Windows 8.1 is, some companies are already dropping support NOW. Examples are :
(1) New AMD graphics cards like RX series and Vega do not have Windows 8.1 drivers.
(2) The new Nvidia RTX series have no Windows 8.1 drivers.
(3) But they do still support Windows 7 (and 10 of course).
Me? I will continue to use Windows 7 and 8.1, keeping one Windows 7 partition on each of my Windows computers even after the end of support in January 2020 while shifting others to Windows 8.1. I will lose the ability to upgrade to newer graphics cards but I don't care. I will avoid Windows 10 for as long as possible. And if in the future I were forced to use Windows 10 then I shall use LTSC (probably version 1809) only. |
