I think he means that.

I remeber when I inserted 2 disks into the 202TE, the available screen option are :
- single disk but I can only click only 1 disk,  but not both
- JBOD for 2 disks
- RAID 0 for 2 disks
- RAID 1 for 2 disks

and I chose RAID 0 - 5.5TB ......

It is not a simple task, I think no NAS support this

upgrade from Single Disk > RAID 1 > RAID 5 > RAID 6 is easy

downgrade almost impossible unless you manually in command line do it, and reconfigure the settings

the only easiest way so far is backup,  
change disk type (wip eout everything) and
restore and take ages.
