I've this infamous ST3000DM001 ... it lasted for 2.5 yrs only

I'm thinking the other way round ... you better hope that it dies in 2.5 yrs, them RMA a brand new replacement before warranty expiry.

My experience:
I've a 1-bay buffalo NAS with a ST3000DM001 being embedded (3-yrs of warranty).  It dies in 2.5 yrs, then Hornington replaced with a brand new NAS (date of manufacture : end 2015) with a DT01ACA300 being embedded.  It seems newer batches no longer using ST3000DM001.
