i plan to buy mini and add ram and change HD.
I did not use mac before.
How to reinstall the os, software and data in the new HD? How to boot the system if the hd is blank?

Insert the DVD-rom & install Mac OS in your new Ext HD.  Press option during boot to select the boot drive.  (I guest)

Using the disk utility to clone the current Mac OS to a Ext HD. (I guest)  And I heard some people using 3rd party freeware Carbon Copy Cloner as well.
