hi guys, good to see some of you guys like to play FSX! I do play but as practice in my GA skill in VFR and learn flying related stuff after work. I just pop up just to share some what i know about what you guys talking about :)
VFR with VOR/NDB/DME: Even though is not necessary, VFR can still use it, after all have more tools to know where you are going is the best
ILS: Other than the simply aviation love, is all about just in case and safety. Pilots learnt to fly visually first so chances are flying visually is best for him/her to know the situation, esp in case something happens. So pilots learnt how to monitor autoland and always prepare when situation goes wrong, after all, you might not have much height from the ground!
ILS is LOC+G/S, if either is down, ILS is not operative and will rely on non precision approach (step down only towards safe known height until you see the runway). Only a handful few runway can do no visual landing, most need to see the runway in some way (landing lights) and if not, is a go around
and yea, always land against wind. More lift, wing more efficient, shorter landing distance. Only if you have loads of landing distance or some other reason that's not a choice, you do downwind (wind behind you) |
