MS CEO Nadella wrote in his book Hit Refresh advising his predecessor not to purchase Nokia, which was already struggling at the time.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella Believed That the Company Was Chasing Its Competitors and There Was No Need for a Third Ecosystem in Phones
“The Nokia deal [was a] painful example of this loss [in mobile]. We were desperate to catch up after missing the rise of mobile technology … Nokia fell from the market-share leader in mobile to number three.”
“I voted no. I did not get why the world needed the third ecosystem in phones unless we changed the rules … But it was too late to regain the ground we had lost. We were chasing our competitors’ taillights.”
There are rumors of a Surface Phone in the works, but as far as Windows 10 Mobile goes, it is virtually non-existent. Companies like HP, who continued to provide a doable work/phone experience with the Elite X3 will most likely switch to Android because there is no shying away from the fact that Microsoft’s lack of commitment for the platform is leading several of its partners nowhere. |
