5) cheap ( under 1000)

I'm using Epson TX600FW without problem under linux. Print/scan work right out of the box via network (ethernet or wifi) without any driver installation. Scan works fine with Simple Scan and xsane.

It also has fax function, but cannot store received fax into a memory card ... but I seldom receive fax, so it's not an issue. Since it has more features, price is slightly over 1000. Also it's a bit big and heavy, but good side is that it's robust.

I heard that Epson and Canon have much lower running cost on ink than HP.

yes, i want a printer at home. i am using hp c5180 (8 years old). it is connected to a powerline switch. my router is a n16 at living room. the signal is very weak at study room. the printer is mainly for printing docs. scan and copy can be operated at the panel. any good suggestion ?
