I just installed Linux Mint on my netbook.
Can someone tell me
1. how to install downloaded softwares,  eg. Avast antivirus.
2. how to install a Epson printer, the driver came with the printer and the driver obtainable in Epson site is for Windows only.

the idea of using windows printer is simple.
1) you need a virtual mechine running windows (windows 7 is good)
2) install printer driver under windows, install another printer driver for Postscript under windows
3) postscript will redirect output to windows printer
3) share the postscript printer so the host linux mechine can print to it.
simple :)
i actually did it with a epson al-m1400 laser printer.

I don't know what Epson printer you're using. I'm using Epson TX600FW connected to my broadband router.

I've also installed Linux Mint 13 (xfce version) on my netbook. I can use the printer by adding a printer under menu -> 'system' -> 'printer' ... the Epson printer appears under 'network printer', and I simply select it and everything is OK. No additional driver/package installation is required.

my router is n12, no usb, and it is molded to tomato. therefore, can not use network printing / scanning through router.
